DENVER – For the second day in a row, a seventh-inning pitching decision by Torey Lovullo was the focus in the manager’s postgame session with reporters. Once again, a move – or, in this case, a non-move – did not work in Lovullo’s favor. And once again, the Diamondbacks’ manager stood patiently in front of cameras and recorders and presented his line of thinking.
Their 6-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies had come down to a two-batter sequence in the seventh, when Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly allowed a two-out single to Ian Desmond and a two-run, tie-breaking homer to Chris Iannetta.
