Torey Lovullo welcomes 'level playing field' but Diamondbacks pitchers mum on substance ban

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo seemed to welcome Major League Baseball’s forthcoming crackdown on pitchers’ use of foreign substances. As for how his pitchers feel about it, that is not yet clear.

“I think it’s going level the playing field,” Lovullo said, “and that’s all I’ve ever asked for.”

MLB issued a memo on Tuesday morning in which it said it would begin ejecting pitchers caught using foreign substances and suspending them for 10 games starting on Monday.

Reporters submitted requests to the Diamondbacks’ communications staff for pitchers to be made available to speak on the subject.
