SAN FRANCISCO – The Diamondbacks’ Tim Locastro lined a ball into shallow right-center field on Saturday afternoon, and when he touched first base he saw an opportunity before him.
Had this occurred a few years ago, Locastro said he almost certainly would have stopped at first with a single. But over the past couple of seasons he has come to recognize not only the sort of weapon he possesses with his speed but also the times when it is best to unleash it.
And so Locastro tore around the bag, appeared to catch San Francisco Giants center fielder Steven Duggar by surprise and slid into second with a nearly uncontested double.
