On June 30th of this year, the D-Backs handily beat the hapless Athletics to take the series and end a middling home stand when they went 3-3 against the Twins and Athletics. They ended the month with a 41-43 record, 10.5 games back in the division, a negative run differential (-13), and 2.5 games back of a Wild Card spot looking up at the Padres, Cardinals, Mets, and Braves. Fast forward a month and the picture has flipped significantly: after sweeping another hapless club in the Nationals, the team is now 58-51, just five games back of the division-leading Dodgers, a much healthier run differential (+45), and owners of the third and final Wild Card spot.
