When Christian Walker exited the July 30 game early against the Nationals, the concern from D-Backs’ fans was palpable, and the concern was warranted as the star first baseman was placed onto the IL the very next day. Since the team had already shipped off their top first base prospect Deyvision De Los Santos (now the team’s number six prospect) to Miami for A.J. Puk a few days prior, they were left in the unenviable position of trying to patch together a tandem of Pavin Smith and Kevin Newman or another option. Mike Hazen instead quickly moved to secure veteran journeyman Josh Bell from those same Marlins for my favorite player: the one who is named later.
