In the moment, Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed said, his right knee had not been bothering him at the plate. He could swing the bat without feeling discomfort or even thinking about the injury that had forced him to miss the first eight games of the season.
But he said Friday he has come to realize that the knee was more than likely at the root of what has been an ugly, 3-for-40 start to his season.
“I’ve developed compensations,” he said, “that I couldn’t necessarily feel and have to go about undoing those compensations now and get back to being the type of hitter I know I can be.
