Just a week ago, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo jokingly remarked that he hoped star players would stop joining the NL West. Lovullo’s jest came after the San Diego Padres signed Dylan Cease.
However, Lovullo’s wish was short-lived, as Blake Snell is now returning to the NL West with the San Francisco Giants, who secured the two-time Cy Young winner with a lucrative 2-year, $62 million deal.
During his stint with the Padres last season, Snell led the National League with a stellar 2.25 ERA, earning him his second Cy Young award.
In Snell’s final six games of the season, he allowed just two earned runs in 38 innings, making it an easy decision for voters to crown him as the best pitcher in the National League.
