After a rough outing against the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday afternoon, the Diamondbacks DFA’d starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner from the team earlier this morning.
With this move, the Diamondbacks will eat more than $34 million remaining on his contract. Bumgarner signed a five-year $85 million deal with Arizona before the 2020 season.
In 4 years with the team, he’s posted an ERA of 5.23 over 69 starts, and his ERA this season has gone up to 10.23 after a tough game against the Cardinals yesterday.
Bumgarner is owed $20.4 million dollars for the remainder of this year and $14 million dollars next year as what will look back to be one of the worst free agent signings in Diamondbacks history.
