For most of his 4 1/3 innings on Friday night, Taylor Widener was pitching aggressively and recording outs. He also was providing reason to believe that the nightmare the Diamondbacks have been living for the past two months might finally be nearing an end.
The Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night, coming away with a 5-2 victory, their third win in the past four days. Eduardo Escobar homered. The lineup was patient. But, most important, the pitching was competent. It started with Widener.
And, zooming out, the club’s return to normalcy might start with Widener, as well.
