DENVER – Rookie right-hander Taylor Clarke will start Tuesday in place of right-hander Zack Godley, taking the ball in the second game of the Diamondbacks’ series against the Rays in Tampa.
Whether Clarke sticks in the rotation beyond that, however, manager Torey Lovullo wouldn’t say.
“We love Taylor Clarke,” Lovullo said. “We’ve seen him come up here and execute a game plan. Look, this game is about performance. So I want to say that anything can happen, but to be honest with you we haven’t looked past Tuesday.”
Clarke, who turns 26 on May 13, has made one appearance in the majors, a three-inning relief outing at Wrigley Field two weeks ago, facing just two batters over the minimum.
