Stunned Diamondbacks remember Jose Fernandez

BALTIMORE – Archie Bradley was in a cab with teammate Jake Lamb on Sunday morning when he heard the news of Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez’s death, and like everyone else in baseball he didn’t want it to be true.

“I don't even know what to say about it,” Bradley said. “It's really heartbreaking.”

Fernandez died early Sunday morning in a boating accident off Miami Beach. He was 24.

Only a handful of Diamondbacks had personal connections to Fernandez, but the news seemed to hit hard in the visitors’ clubhouse. Players solemnly gathered around a television to watch media coverage, and every so often someone would remark about how good Fernandez was.
