NASHVILLE – Dave Stewart doesn’t view the Shelby Miller trade as an overpay. He views it as the cost of assembling a team that might contend for a championship.
“What would you do to win?” Stewart said during a session with reporters at the Gaylord Opryland Resort on Wednesday. “That’s the way I look at it.”
Stewart and the Diamondbacks have caught heat from all sides after sending three players – outfielder Ender Inciarte, right-hander Aaron Blair and the reigning top pick in the draft, shortstop Dansby Swanson – to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for Miller, a young right-hander who will slot in behind the newly acquired Zack Greinke atop the rotation.
