Stewart: D-Backs pitchers have ‘underachieved’

The Diamondbacks poured money and prospects into upgrading their pitching staff in the offseason, putting together a rotation they thought would pitch deep into games and a bullpen they believed would protect leads and keep games close.

With some exceptions, it has not worked out the way the Diamondbacks’ envisioned, but General Manager Dave Stewart has not lost faith in his staff, nor does he believe the organization missed on its evaluations or expectations. He just thinks they’re not pitching well. He thinks they can, and should, perform better.

“We should definitely be better, there’s no doubt about that,” Stewart said.
