ARLINGTON, Texas – Two years ago, Zack Godley arrived unexpectedly to provide rotation stability for the Diamondbacks at a time when they needed it. Last season, Clay Buchholz did the same. With another strong performance in a 9-2 win over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night, left-hander Alex Young is following the path.
Young worked into the sixth inning for the third time in as many starts at the major league level, giving up just one run on three hits and a walk. The Diamondbacks have won each of his starts.
“You’re always going to get to a certain point in the year where you need someone you weren’t really expecting to kind of step up,” Diamondbacks catcher Alex Avila said.
