Sawdaye joins Bryan Minniti, who is also an assistant GM for Arizona.
Like Hazen, Sawdaye comes to the D-backs from the Red Sox, where he was the team's vice president in charge of amateur and international scouting.
Sawdaye spent 15 years in the organization and was director of scouting from 2010-14 before being promoted in January 2015.
Sawdaye had been rumored to be a candidate to take over as GM for Hazen in Boston and his name also came up with regards to joining the Twins under new chief baseball officer Derek Falvey.
