Chris Archer continues to have a very good bounce-back season for the Philadelphia Phillies. On this day though, his best efforts simply were not enough. Madison Bumgarner was in prime form on Monday, needing only 100 pitches to fly through eight innings of one-run ball. And fly, he did. The left-hander only struck out five in this outing, however, he once again showed his ability to control the strike zone, limiting walks and getting weak contact from painting the edges.
Arizona’s offense showed some signs of life in this game. It was still not the resounding sort of outing one might hope for, but four runs on eight hits and two walks is a step in the right direction.
