Madison Bumgarner surrendered a pair of two run homers while Pittsburgh’s J.T. Brubaker fired five shutout innings. The Diamondbacks’ offense squandered numerous scoring opportunities early, which made their two-run “rally” in the eight insufficient to salvage the game.
David Peralta made a wall-crashing catch in left. Daulton Varsho made a great throw to catch Reynolds trying to stretch a hit into a double. The bullpen fired three scoreless innings. Ketel Marte dug deep and found some of his missing power with a pinch-hit home run in the eighth. In the end, it still equated to another Diamondbacks loss to the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates, further pushing Arizona “ahead” of the Pirates for the worst record in baseball.
