Though it started off a bit rocky, in the end, Riley Smith provided a perfectly acceptable start, filling in for the injured Taylor Widener. J.B. Bukauskas and Taylor Clarke did their part pitching out of the bullpen. Arizona’s offense took a while to get going. Once it did, it still had issues with getting the timely hit. It was the combined failures of Arizona’s defense and late-inning bullpen that cost the Snakes this one, allowing six runs (all earned) on seven hits, a walk, and an error in just one inning.
Teams allowing six runs to score in the eighth inning are not going to win many contests.
