WASHINGTON – Shelby Miller allowed himself to smile, recognizing the rare good fortune delivered upon him on Wednesday night, when he was credited not only with a complete game but also a shutout. He threw a mere five innings and rain washed away the rest, he and the Diamondbacks coming away with a truncated 3-0 victory over the Nationals.
But as his season came to an apparent end, there were a couple of points Miller couldn’t help but contemplate, reasons to look forward even more to next season, when he can finally put this disastrous year behind him, once and for all.
