In March, left-hander David Price left Red Sox camp to visit with a pair of elbow specialists. It was feared Price, Boston’s high-priced ace, would require season-ending surgery.
It turned out the diagnosis was about as good as could be reasonably expected: Price had a “strained” elbow ligament; surgery was not necessary; and he currently is on the disabled list but working his way back, aiming for a mid-season return to the Red Sox rotation.
This is worth bearing in mind as Shelby Miller receives a second opinion on Tuesday on his balky right elbow.
