When manager Chip Hale named his first four pitchers in the starting rotation during the opening week of spring training workouts, left-handed Robbie Ray vowed to himself that the No. 5 job would be his and his alone.
He worked hard to get it and now he plans to prove why he deserves it.
“I’m excited,” said Ray, who will make his 2016 debut Friday night at Chase Field against the Cubs. “I’m ready to get going and get out there and show everybody what I’ve got.”
Ray, acquired from the Tigers in a three-way deal that included the Diamondbacks sending shortstop Didi Gregorious to the Yankees, showed flashes of what he could do last season as a rookie.
