Left-hander Robbie Ray’s tenure with the Diamondbacks has offered little in the way of consistency, his performance fluctuating from year to year, even outing to outing. He sometimes can seem just as likely to throttle an opposing lineup as he can be to struggle to find the strike zone.
But there does appear to be some predictability in regard to Ray’s path ahead, a road perhaps as cut and dry as any player on the Diamondbacks’ roster this season: If he pitches well, he likely will end up pitching in games that matter.
