LOS ANGELES – To the extent that an early-season road trip can mean much of anything to a baseball team embarking on a 162-game schedule, the Diamondbacks’ 10-game swing through the National League West hasn’t served as an encouraging barometer.
Halfway through, they are on their way to erasing the optimism they created with their rousing opening homestand. Their 8-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night dropped them to 1-4 on the trip, another night in which their offense struggled, their defense failed them and their bullpen was unable to keep things close.
