PITTSBURGH – A pair of rain delays on Saturday evening put the Diamondbacks in a precarious position: While they were in need of innings out of their starter after Friday’s 13-inning game, they didn’t want to ask too much of ace Zack Greinke.
The first delay, which occurred two batters into the bottom of the first inning, lasted 25 minutes. The second took 56 minutes, occurring after the top of the fourth.
Greinke said he’d never had to pitch through multiple delays, nor had he experienced one as long as the second delay. The first delay was no big deal, but the second one created some stress for Diamondbacks decision-makers.
