Pollock breaks elbow, needs surgery

PHOENIX -- D-backs outfielder A.J. Pollock was removed from Friday night's exhibition game in the third inning and was diagnosed with a broken right elbow after sliding headfirst into home plate.

Manager Chip Hale said Pollock fractured the elbow and will need surgery. He said they don't have timeline yet for return.

Pollock was on third when David Peralta hit a grounder to second base. Omar Infante threw home to try and get Pollock, who slid headfirst, touched home plate with his left hand and then grabbed his right elbow area in pain.
