President Donald Trump said Thursday that he had accepted an invitation to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at a New York Yankees game on August 15, but I’m guessing now that’s off.
He'll refuse to appear. Something baseball, and all of us, should celebrate.
If Trump meant what he's said and continues to say about professional athletes who quietly demonstrate on behalf of social justice and equality he’ll refuse to pick up a glove and ball, let alone wear a Yankees' jersey.
Prior to the start of the long-delayed Major League Baseball season Thursday, Trump tweeted:
Looking forward to live sports, but any time I witness a player kneeling during the National Anthem, a sign of great disrespect for our Country and our Flag, the game is over for me!
