The Diamondbacks are getting back to basics with struggling left-hander Madison Bumgarner, cutting out some of the more nuanced aspects of his between-starts work and instead focusing on pitch execution.
“Right now with where he’s at, we’re focusing on, flat-out, executing,” pitching coach Matt Herges said. “Where are you trying to go with this and let’s do it. He’s elite in terms of the feel he has for what he’s doing — his body, his mechanics — but I think the mind-set is what we’re working on, basically.
