For years, a simple axiom had come to define the Diamondbacks’ lineup: As Paul Goldschmidt goes, so goes the offense. It wasn’t always that cut and dry, but more often than not the statement rang true.
The Diamondbacks are five games into their season, Goldschmidt has just one hit and, from the sound of it, panic has taken hold in the home clubhouse.
“Maybe they’re going to send Paul down if he doesn’t start getting hits soon,” infielder Daniel Descalso deadpanned after a 6-1 win over the Dodgers on Tuesday night.
For the second night in a row, the Diamondbacks prevailed over their division rivals.
