Paul Goldschmidt, the longtime first baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks, penned an emotional farewell to the team and his fans in a full-page ad published in Sunday's edition of The Arizona Republic.
Goldschmidt, an all-star player affectionately known as "Goldy" to fans, was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals earlier this month, in exchange for three young players and a draft pick.
"There is something incredibly special about the place where you first see your dreams come true," Goldschmidt wrote. "That's what Arizona is to me, and man, is this place special. That makes it very hard to say goodbye.
