Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is planning to play for Team USA in March at the World Baseball Classic, a source confirmed Thursday.
For Goldschmidt, who has rated among the best hitters in baseball the past four years, this will mark his first participation in the international baseball tournament, which runs March 6-22.
The sites for Team USA: First round, Marlins Park in Miami; second round (if the U.S. advances), Petco Park in San Diego; semifinals and final at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The U.S. has never finished higher than fourth in the WBC.

The last time the tournament was held, prior to the 2013 season, Goldschmidt was coming off his first full year in the majors, a solid if unspectacular campaign in which he hit .
