Non-Prospects in the Minors

Last season, teams carried 180 players on their minor league rosters. Already, that was a decrease from the pre-pandemic era when there were many more minor league teams. This year, that number was decreased to 165, which was part of the collective bargaining agreement with the minor league players. Part of the result of this is that the Diamondbacks only have one team in the complex this year, instead of two last year. Another result is that, with those roster spots being at a premium, there is less room for quad-A players; that is, players who are held on to primarily for depth.
