Noé Ramirez had a memorable first day as an Arizona Diamondback, throwing a scoreless inning to keep the game at 0-0 through seven innings against his hometown team, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Called up from Triple-A Reno after signing a minor-league contract last month, he also got to wear the well-received "Serpientes" jersey on the night the Diamondbacks debuted them.
Sunday was special, too. It was Father's Day, Ramirez was called upon in a one-run game, and he got two outs in the ninth inning to give his team a chance to end its losing streak.
Looking back, Ramirez, a right-hander from East Los Angeles, was able to reflect on everything his dad Rafael and his family provided for him growing up in an area always regarded as low income.
