Diamondbacks closer Brad Ziegler did something unusual when he got Miami’s Christian Yelich to ground into a double play in the ninth inning Saturday.
He threw the pitch overhanded.
It was the second time this year Ziegler has thrown a pitch overhanded as opposed to his usual sidearm delivery. Credit pitching coach Mike Butcher for the idea. In spring training Butcher noticed that Ziegler threw his long-toss and his first few warm-up pitches from the overhand position. He suggested that Ziegler try it in a game.

“There are certain guys where I feel like a different look might benefit me in certain situations,” Ziegler said.
