In a decision that felt like a formality, Major League Baseball pulled the plug on the Diamondbacks two-game series with the San Diego Padres that was to be held in Mexico City next month.
The series was scheduled for April 18-19 but had looked all but assuredly dead after best-case scenarios targeted mid-May for the start of the MLB season – and that date is now viewed by most as highly optimistic due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“It breaks our heart we won’t be playing in front of the incredible fans in México this year,” the message read, “but health and safety come first.
