The Diamondbacks’ Adam Jones worked the count in his favor, jumped on a good pitch to hit and sent it sharply on one hop toward left field. San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford made sure it didn’t get there.
Crawford’s play in the ninth inning took a walk-off hit away from Jones and saved the game for the Giants, who went on to win 3-2 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at Chase Field.
The play also changed the way the Diamondbacks viewed the past 10 games. Rather than a .500 homestand that would have felt at least adequate, the Diamondbacks went just 4-6 against the Braves, Pirates and Giants.
