Days after being diagnosed with a strained flexor tendon and a partial tear of his ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, D-backs right-hander Shelby Miller announced he will undergo Tommy John surgery.
Miller was pondering a few options, including stem-cell treatment and platelet-rich plasma therapy, but ultimately settled for Tommy John surgery.
"It's the best decision I think we could make," Miller said.
Miller was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Monday after being pulled from his outing the day before in the fifth inning. He had thrown 78 pitches in that start against the Dodgers when he felt something in his pitching elbow.
