PHOENIX -- Down the left-field line at Chase Field just before the D-backs began to do their stretching and throwing for Tuesday night's game, there was a different game of catch going on.
Mesa Mayor John Giles and Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell played catch with a group of children from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mesa and Tempe.
The event was in coordination with Major League Baseball and the U.S. Conference of Mayors, which is hosting "PLAY BALL Month" in more than 125 cities across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
The PLAY BALL initiative encourages sustained participation of the sport with activities focused on strengthening families and communities while generating sustainable enthusiasm and a broad participation in baseball and baseball-related activities.
