After being fired last month following a tumultuous season with the Washington Nationals, Matt Williams could have stepped away from the game for a year and no one would have blamed him.
But Williams, who officially returned to his old role as the Diamondbacks’ third-base coach on Thursday, said he didn’t give the thought much consideration.
“I’m in this game because I love it and want to be a coach,” Williams said. “I played for a very long time, as you know; it is my passion, to say the least.”
Williams was on the Diamondbacks’ coaching staff for four years from 2010-2013, serving as the third-base coach the final three seasons before taking the Nationals’ managerial job.
