Luke Weaver turns in uneven outing as shaky spring continues for Diamondbacks

Diamondbacks right-hander Luke Weaver allowed seven earned runs and served up three homers in 5 1/3 innings against the Kansas City Royals on Thursday, the latest shaky start from a pitcher looking to rebound from a down season.

Weaver gave up four runs on a pair of homers in the first, then two more runs in the second. He then retired 11 of 12 batters to end his outing — the lone blemish being a solo homer by the Royals’ Carlos Santana in the fifth.

Weaver felt good about the strong finish to his day, but his manager, Torey Lovullo, sounded concerned about the amount of hard contact Weaver has allowed this spring.
