Dodgers catcher Will Smith hit a two-run home run to put the Diamondbacks in an early 2-0 hole in the third inning.
Diamondbacks right-hander Jon Duplantier, who had retired the first six men he faced, allowed a leadoff walk to Alex Verdugo to start to the top of the third inning and then allowed the home run by Smith, which came on a 3-2 count.
In the previous inning, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo seemed to take issue with home plate umpire Adrian Johnson and his strike zone, but live pitch-tracking data did not indicate that Johnson's calls were egregious.
