If his 2019 season could somehow be erased from memory, Ketel Marte would be off to a fantastic start this year. He is hitting .330, spraying base hits to all fields. He has run the bases well and played a decent second base. He looks, in a lot of ways, like the kind of player many expected him to be as he worked his way through the minors.
But, with Marte, there is no forgetting 2019. It was too good, too explosive. It raised the bar too high. And so, even for a player who entered Wednesday eighth in the National League in batting average, there was an element of, well, curiosity at best, disappointment at worst, about the way his season has gone.
