The Diamondbacks officially announced this morning what’s probably their biggest move since the signing of Madison Bumgarner in December 2019. Ketel Marte, the team’s best performer over the last three years, is now under contract for at least six seasons, including the one about to begin, with a team option for the year after that. Marte was already under team control through the end of 2024, but the salary for those years has been reworked as part of the new deal. According to Bob Nightengale, the extension “guarantees him an extra $52 million and increases to $56 million with his signing bonus and buyout.
