More than a week ago, as the Diamondbacks were preparing for their final game in a series in New York, manager Torey Lovullo gushed about John Ryan Murphy and intimated that the young catcher was likely to find himself in the starting lineup more often in the coming games.
But in the time since, Murphy’s playing time has seen no tangible bump, other than the lone start he got over the weekend in Oakland in which he served as the designated hitter. Murphy was on the bench again on Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds.
When he does play, Murphy tends to produce.
