When the Diamondbacks signed Joc Pederson this winter, his expected impact felt very predictable. He seemed to be a solid bet to have a good, slugging bat and provide zero to negative value defensively. To this point, that’s exactly what he is doing. Regarding his defense, he has yet to play a single inning in the field for the D-backs, and it’s clear how poorly they view his defense when they have played two outfielders with a negative Fielding Run Value (Pavin Smith isn’t even one of them) over allowing him to put a glove on and jog out to left field.
