The Diamondbacks recognized infielder Jean Segura was closing in on the feat about a week ago, no doubt a feel-good pursuit to keep tabs on as Arizona inches toward the conclusion of a miserable season.
And although manager Chip Hale will manage Segura’s workload as needed, he’s rooting Segura on as he pursues 200 hits for the first time in his major-league career.
“We really want to get him to 200 and surpass it,” Hale said. “It’s exciting for him.”
Segura, too, is aware, and he isn’t ready to slow down as he approaches the milestone.
