ST. LOUIS -- After going hitless in his first five at-bats for the D-backs following his trade from the Tigers, outfielder J.D. Martinez has shown why Arizona made him its top non-waiver Trade Deadline target.
Martinez's grand slam in the fourth inning Thursday night against the Cardinals was his fifth hit since joining the D-backs, four of which have been homers.
Cardinals starter Luke Weaver cruised through the first three innings before allowing a leadoff double to A.J. Pollock in the fourth, followed by back-to-back walks to Jake Lamb and Paul Goldschmidt to load the bases.
