Asked about a home run he allowed more than a week ago, Robbie Ray still couldn’t make sense of it. His pitch to the Braves’ Ronald Acuna Jr. was a breaking ball in a fastball count. It was down, a little out of the strike zone. And Acuna’s back knee went to the ground as he made contact. The ball still traveled 448 feet to the opposite field.
“That was a head-scratcher, for sure,” Ray said. “When he hit it initially, my thought was not, ‘That ball is out of here.’ ”
Ray acknowledges that Acuna is a special player.
