With left-hander Madison Bumgarner in the fold, the Diamondbacks’ next move will be to trade lefty Robbie Ray. Or, at least, that’s what many assume will be the case.
General Manager Mike Hazen understands the thinking, but he said the Diamondbacks did not sign Bumgarner with the intent of trading Ray – or any other pitcher the club has penciled into its starting rotation.
“We didn’t necessarily make this in anticipation of anything else,” Hazen said. “We felt like we were adding a top-of-the-rotation starting pitcher.
