There was never, ever, a doubt about Andy Green’s passion for the game of baseball.
He showed it from the moment he joined the Diamondbacks as a 24th-round pick in the 2000 amateur draft, an infield prospect from the University of Kentucky, until the day he retired as a major-leaguer in 2009 with the New York Mets.
But there was a moment of fury that seemed to stand out above all the others at the tail end of his playing days in Arizona when, after a particular game in 2006, he learned he had been demoted to the minor leagues.
