ST. LOUIS – After manager Chip Hale called him one of the team’s “brightest surprises” before the game, Diamondbacks backup catcher Chris Herrmann turned in another big performance on Friday night.
Herrmann delivered a key, two-run single in the first and added a solo home run in the ninth in the Diamondbacks’ 11-7 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
With the two hits, Herrmann is hitting .400 (16 for 40) with a double, two triples and three home runs in May.
“Honestly, I’ve got to thank my coaches … for giving me a chance to play,” Herrmann said.
